Brief Bio
Portuguese conductor Rui Miguel Marques has conducted the Kecskemet Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Dresden, Orkester Ø, Berlin Sinfonietta, Hærens Musikkorps, Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps, LCW Festival Orchestra, Atlantic Coast Orchestra and Alto Minho Youth Orchestra, amongst others.
Since February 2024, Rui is also part of Dirigentforum Junior - Talent Norge and Dirigentløftet’s Elite Program for young conductors.
Portuguese conductor Rui Miguel Marques is currently studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo) under the guidance of Professor Ole Kristian Ruud, as part of his degree in Orchestral Conducting.
During his conducting studies, Rui has participated in masterclasses with Jorma Panula, Johannes Schlaefli, Nicólas Pasquet, Neil Thomson, Howard Williams, Edward Gardner, Colin Metters, John Farrer, Luis Clemente and Cesário Costa.
At the age of 13, Marques started to show interest in orchestral conducting, having started to study with Portuguese Conductor Alexandre Madeira. Before studying at NMH, Rui studied, for four years, with British Conductor Timothy Henty.
Besides conducting, Rui is also a pianist, currently studying with Christopher Park. Marques started to play the piano at the age of 5, guided by Professor Klara Dolynay. During his piano studies, Rui has been awarded in several national and international piano competitions.
